MINISTER’S REMINDER,

WELLINGTON, November 27.

' A reminder that the building subsidy scheme operated only until December 31 was.issued yesterday by the actingMinister of Employment, Hon. A. Hamilton. In reminding those now making application for the subsidy .and those contemplating application of this the (Minister said the total value of building work approved for subsidy up to date was approximately £900,000. _ “The rules provide,” said the 'Minister, “that the subsidy will be payable after December 31 m respect of any nvan engaged and actually started on approved works prior to December 31, but the wages of any men engaged after that date .will not be subject to Subsidy. Furthermore, if the works are not completed on June 30 next, the amoufit of subsidy will be reduced to one-half in respect of the wages earned on. and after July 1, 1933. “There is no doubt whatever,” continued the Minister. “That the scheme has had a most stimulating effect on the building industry. This is proved by figures which disclose that the monthly value of building permits alone has .more than doubled as against figures far the period immediately prior to the commencing of the subsidy. “The total value of building, et c -, work approved for subsidy up to date I is approximately £900,000, and the I number of workers who will have i received some employment at thei r own trade and at full wages, by tho time these contracts ar e completed. . will total over 80C0.”
