life was made by means of poison, but it is one of those cases where no proof is available. “In 1929 I liad occasion to propose sentence of imprisonment on a negrh orator for very gross contempt of Court. His sentence was concurred in by an acting Judge of the Court, but dissented from by a ijudge next m seniority to me.

“The immediate result was that a negro publication described me as ‘harsh and unsympathetic.’ It is not improbable that some feeling was excited in the minds hf the man’s supporters.” |
