FOR THE BRITISH SOLDIERS

New uniform equipment which, if finally adopted, will considerably alter the appearance of the British Army, was officially shown for the first time in London To-day, Str'k'ng features are a light waterproof hat of deer 'stalker pattern, which can b e folded into the pocket ; an open-necked tunic ; a shirt of a dull bronze colour; buttons and badges. The decision is not final regarding the trousers, but , these shown are similar to the Guards’ pattern, with short .web leggings. The purpose of the new uniform is to reduce the weight and increase comfort, and generally to bo morn hygienic. The new equipment, which is' 3 JjbUut seven pound's lighter, discards '‘thfe ‘ 'water bottle’ land .haversack/ ' 'and 'reduces the .<i/e of th e bayonet. jit has a aiew pattern entrenching tool, and 'Contains an easily detachable pack, which can be divided into two. The new uniform is being isrued to two Ibattalions as an experiment.
