WESTLAND RACING CLUB

COMMITTEE MEETING. Th e Committee met at 8.15 o’clock last evening. Present; Messrs F. McGregor (Deputy Chairman), A. W. Yarrall, M. Houiston j H. Bu'land, J. J. Bieeze, J J. Mclntosh junr., F. Fane, !R. Whiley and D. J. Evans. Apologies for absence 'were received from Messrs J- J. Mclnto h (President); W. E. Williams, C. J. P. Sellers and p. T. Parry. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.

Reference was made at. the outset of the meeting, to th e disappearance of Mr John Peakej who had for so long been a trusted official of the Club, and who had been bo attentive to his dbties. Regret was expressed 'by all, and it was resolved to write a letter to Mrs Peake and family expressive of the sympathy of the members, and condolence in the loss which had befallen them. i

CORRESPONDS XCE. From the New Zealand Racing Conference approving of conditions for the Club’s Christmas programme.—Received, From same notifying Mr E. W. Cardale (Wellington) would be Sti* pendiary Steward for the forthcoming meeting, and ‘Mr R. G. Black ('Welling, ton)' Racecourse inspector,—Received, From Geo, Reed, Riccarton, accepting the position of starter, and wiahing the Club a successful meeting—Received,

From G. N. 'McLean, Amberley, acknowledging with thanks, President’s testimonial regarding discharge of duties as Deputy-Stipendiaiy Steward. — Received.

From Minister of Internal Affairs, and Aew Zealand Trotting Association regarding Mi* J. Nooieg appointment as an official handicapptr for* trotting races.—Received.

From J. iNoole, Reefton, on same subject stating his application had been granted and' thanking the Club for its valuable help in the matter, —Received. From W. Wocd regretting it was necessary to resign his membership.—■ Received. -

From N.Z. Country Racing Club’s Association giving particulars of , returns at 'Otaki under the U e, w r uUa for dividends, on the totalisator.—Received.

From New Zealand Racing Conference forwarding resolutions parsed, by the executive governing three place dividends, too for win and place dividends,—Received.

From Grey mouth Jockey C?ub replying that it was proposed to pay two dividends in the case of 'five or more starters. —Received. The new regulations were discussed, and it was iresolved for the forthcoming meeting, to pay two dividends where -five* numbers are allotted on the totalisator to barters in * raw. Formerly th# num. ber was fixed at six for two dividends.

GENERAL. ~ • The chairman congratulated the secretary on his greatly imp, roved health, which was appreciated by all. Mr Evans said ,he would require some assktance for tth.9 meeting, and Mr Houston kindly, offered to take charge of the Club’s office on race days, the offer being accepted with thanks. Mr J. J. Breeze was appointed timekeeper vice Mr Houston. Mr ■£. Stoop was appointed totalisato r olerk. It was resolved to sell two publicans’ booths for tlie meeting 'by public auction on Thursday, December 15th. It was stated entries next Friday evening, and arrangements were made for the receipt of entries at Christchurch,

Reports indicated that the course and appointments were in excellent order, and all arrangements for the meeting were being pushed forward. The usual conveniences for the phiblic in regard to transport would be provided, and the meeting should be very successful. The meeting concluded at 9 p.m.
