HOKITIKA VOLUNTEERS

The first parade of the local volunteers under the new Peace Establishment, was held on Tuesday evening, when the full platoon paraded. Hokitika is now the headquarters of C company with No 5 Platoon, the remainder of the company No G Platoon, at Motueka. The following are the appointments of officers under the, new organisation: ('apt. C. Pleach, Coy. Commander; Lieut. 0. J. Hutchison, 2nd in Command; Lieut. J. Blank, O/C No 5 Platoon. The platoon appointments by Capt. Bleach are: Sgt. Connolly, .C.S.M.; Set. •). Cooper, Platoon Sgt.; Sgt C. Wright, No 1 section; Cpl. R. Littlp, No 2 section; Cpl. J. Walker, No 3 section; Cpl. L. Leslie, No 4 section. The training will take the form of tactical exercises, Lewis gun and musketry training. It is proposed to carry out a night attack on. the local aeroplane landing ground in the near future.

The Hokitika platoon will be 40 Strong and by the way recruits are coming forward to join up the platoon should soon be full strength. However there ate still vacancies and anyone between the. age of 1H years and 33 years will he welcomed if they will repprt to any officer or member of the company.

The annual camp will be held at Tnpawhera from February 20 to 27 inclusive. Pay of rank will be given for 6 days.
