HARBOUR BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The Board met yesterday at 4.30 p.m. Present: —Messrs M. H. Houston (chairman), W. E. Richards, E. W. Heen-an, and D. P. Stuart. It was reported that 46 piles washed from the north wall had been secured. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESti ON DENCE. From Unemployment Board, in reference to pensioners and payment of levy.—Received. From same, in reference to variations of pay.—Received. The Signalman reported that the channel over the bar was in fair condition running straight out to set with depth of 10 to 11 feet. The entrance is widsi -and' easy of navigation. At present very little water is flowing through the'broken portion of the .vail.—Received. Accounts as scheduled were passed for payment. The Signolman was authorised to arrange for .birthing of vessels.. It was resolved to enquire from the Railway Department in connection with an extension of the line for trucks at. wharf and a supply of second hand rails for the purpose. It was resolved to ask the Borough Council to .place twenty men on the harbour works in an endeavour to o"en out the channel on the north side up the. rjver.
