RUINOUS RETURN
FARMER’S SHIPMENT.
CHRISTCHURCH, November 24
Striking figures showing lmw heavily the burden of costs falls on the farmer were given by Mr James'Carr of Moth von, a t the annual meeting of the (North Canterbury Co-operative Freezing Company, Ltd., yesterday afternoon. Mr Carr said be consigned ,163 carcases of ewe mutton to London by the Rangitata, the total weight being 87641 b. The consignment realised £72 8s Bd, from which London commission at 2 per cent, £1 95,, was deducted, leaving a net return of. £7O Us Bd, plus exchange at £8 3s 9d per cent,, £5 16s 3d, making a total of £75 15s lid. Against this return were charges, amounting, to £73 15s Id, made no as. followsi —Railage £3 14s 9d, freight £33 8s lOd, freezing charges' £29 4s 3d,'storage, Customs.' levy and bills of lading £7 7s 3d. The net amount which he received from liis 163 sb,eep. said Mr Carr, was only £3 Os Kiel, which equally 4.478 d per sheep. The average weight of the carcases was 53.701 b.
