NO PAID CLERGY
VIEWS OF BISHOP OF WAIKATO
HAMILTON, “Pounds, shillings, and pence figure too much in our religion to-day,” siaid the Bishop o.f Waikato in the course of a sermon, at the Cathedral last night. “After 1900 years, religion should he freely. There- should be no paid clergy in Hamilton to-day, and two bishops, one in the North Island and one in the South, should be sufficient for New Zealand. After all these centuries of Christianity there should be men elected from the community to administer the Sacraments and preach without payment. The Church could then use all the money for missions. “If we had unlimited means' we could eviangelis© the whole, world in a hundred years.”
