RED ACTIVITY
POLICY AT HOME COMMUNISM AND TRADE UNIONS (“Times” Cable.)
LONDON, November 23,
“The Times’ ” Labour correspondent says: “The Communists are organising a movement to capture the leadership of the British trade unions, thus reverting to tactics 1 which have previously failed. The leadens’ latest orders urge the Communist Party to build .a powerful revolutionary opposition in order to lead the mass movement which, they declare, is now sweeping Britain.
“This has been their policy since January but has only recently been accepted, owing to the existence of strong opposition. It is admitted to be a dangerous course for a small party, as it is likely to lead to compromises. Nevertheless, official Communism, believing, or pretending to believe, that the workers are approaching a revolutionary mood, flatters itself that it can “develop' a broiad fighting front proving that strikes and mass fights are the only practical way of smashing the influence of reformist leaders.” i
“The Times” correspondent adds: “The Communists are only troublesome in a few of the unions, while there are also more limited activities by them in a few other unions.”
