JOINTLY CHARGED

HUSBAND AND WIFE IN DOCK

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 15,

Husband and wife stood together in the dock at th© Police Court this afternoon charged! with the theft of a squirrj fur coat, valued at £B2 10s, the property of J. Bailantyne and Co. The accused were Albert Goodin, an engineer, aged 28 years, and Ivy Myra Goodin, aged 24, both residing i n Hereford Street. Chief-Detective Carroll said that on October 27 the mate accused was arrested on another charge. Among the goods taken possesion of by the police was a locked suitcase, claimed by hi,s wife, which was found to contain a fur coat. A fur coat of the same description had been missed from J. Bailantyne and Co.’s showroom about October 7. The .police communicated with Bailantyne’s and four or five employees definitely identified the coat. The woman said that she had bought the coat in Wellington twelve months before but was unable to supply the address of the person from whom she bought it. When she was: arrested the husband made a statement implicating himself and stating that he was the thief.

The husband pleaded guilty and was committed to the. Supreme Court for sentence. The wife pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. She was allowed bitjl in £IOO and one surety of £IOO, being represented by Dr. Ha slam,
