Victor Smitlf;'lthe 19 yerr old son of a Soutlf c Africah' : boot manufacturer, who left Capetown at midnight on 12th. November in an atempt to beat the air records to Croydon, was ahead of his schedule when he reached Dualla at. 5.40 p.m. on*llth. November. He departed for Gao, and since has been reported missing in the district between Niemey and Dualla, a dense forest belt eight 'hundred miles wide, infested with insects.
