NEW WING OPENED

DUNEDIN, November 13

With all the dignity and ceremonial of the Roman Catholic Church,; the nev. buildings at Holy Cross College, 1 Mosgiel, were blessed , and opened . today under most, auspicious Circumstances by Arhcbishop Redwood (Wellington), leader .of the Church in New Zealand. A large, crowd assembled in tae spacious and: beautifully-laid out grounds of the-college, and thor ceremony was carried out in perfect weather. -

A proces[,»on consisting- of the Archbishop, Bishops Whyte (Dunedin), Brodie (Christchurch), and Liston (Auckand), and... Monsignor- Connolly (Wellington), supported by a la.’ number of local and visiting memt-TS of the priesthood and students of the college, formed in the chapel, where the opening hymn was sung. To' tile chanting of hymns the procession then moved to the outside of the building, halting before one’-of' the doors, where the ceremony of blessing the new wing W&9 carried out by Archbishop Redwood.

Holy Cross College was established in the year 1900, under the guidance cf Bishop Verdbn, for the training of priests in New Ze-aland, 1 ’2nd at- tlie end of that year there were 11 students. No better instance of the manner in which the college has since progressed could be given than the fact that there are now., about 70 students, drawn from all parts of New Zealand, who are provided with excellent faciities- for study, meditation, and recreation. In 1910 Bishop Liston, now of Auckland, took charge of the college, and remained as rector for 10 years. The present rector is the Rev. Dr Morkane.

.The new buildings, which a.rei of‘a s'mple and dignified style, are in. red. brick, with red tiled roofing, and stand amid well kept lawns, shrubb-ries, and : attractive flower beds. Within the buildings, which- are of an'essentially • utilitarian nature', close attention lias bren given to comfort and convenience!! and the accomhiodation .of the students has been very Adequately catered fpr>, V'.'-n . •
