A “KILLER” CAUGHT

DOG KILLS OVER 500 SHEEP.

WELLINGTON, November 13

There is joy among the sheep farmers of Belmont, Lower Hutt, because a notorious “killer” has been caught says the “Post.” It is stated that i.irice June last, when he began operations, this dog has been responsible for the killing of over 'SOO sheep and .lambs. All efforts to shoot him were in vain, as up to last Monday, except "for fleeting glimpses of a shadowy form escaping in the darkness, he has not been seen. He never operated on a monlight nigh,t,. and never before 11 p.m, . nor.-after .3.30 a.m.. Lately a of.fchs movements a nd of liis path of -approach has been made and traps laid. On Sunday a glimpse of him was Obtained, and on Monday he was trapped, and proved to be a black and tan half-terrier with white spots. A careful canvass of the district failed to produce the owner of the animal, which was trapped by Mr W. A. Cottle, who has been one of the chief losers through the dog’s misdeeds. Mr Cottle states that the loss to sheepowners by dogs worrying sheep is very heavy. Within the last few weeks five other “killers” have been allot in the Belmont district .
