TRADE WITH EAST

NO RESTRICTIONS ON EXPORTS

MINISTER’S ASSURANCE

•■WELLINGTON, November lb

No restrictions are being placed on shipments of primary produce to the •East,' according to a statement made by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. R. Masters, in a letter' to Mr R. McKeen, MX. for Wellington South.

“So far as fruit is concerned it j,s merely necessary to make application t 0 the Fruit Control Board for permission to ship to the East,” wrote the Minister, “and permission is invariably granted. There have been, in fact;- nd instances on the part of the hoard of refusal of permission to ship. Exporters make their own arrangements as regard., actual shipments to the East. An exception to tlris occurs in the of shipments from Otago, which district has not been brought under the board’s' sphere of control. In this case permission to ■ship is not necessary. “So far ae meat and dairy produce ar e concerned, the relative boards exercise control only over shipments by the Conference lines, that is to say, shipments to the United Kingdom, the Continent of Europe, and America. Exporters are f r ee to ls hip to the East if they wish, and the prior permission of the board is not required. That being so, there havo been no instances of permission to the East being refused.

“The Honey Export Control Board also states that it places no restrictions on shipments to the East, and consequently there have been no instances where permission to private individuals or companies to ship to the East has been refused.”
