The strike at the works of the Rogers Meat Company, ha s ended and the men have agreed to resume work pending the hearing of their claims by the industrial commission. '
GISBORNE WORKS COMMENCE
UNION MEN AND FREE LABOUR
GISBORNE,, 'November 16. J -‘ -'Tliyl' Gisborne freezing works queued t'o-dliy' with -a small board, including six unionists and nine free, labour. A small quantity of stock is available with ample bookings. The management stated' that the results of the call for labour were up to expectations, and the work of the newcomers . was highly promising. Only the men willing to undertake slaughtering permanently are being engaged as learners.
Unionist officials claim that only a small proportion of (lie union membership responded to the call for general labourers and chamber hands, and that the key workers, namely the sl/ajughtermeti, were- practically solid in their refusal of the, employeis rates.
-Only six union slaughtermen yere on the killing board tliis morning. The secretary statcis that three of these were being carried over from October when they were engaged to kill show exhibits for export.
free labour at imlay
WANGANUI, November 16,
Tllo Imlay freezing works commenced the season this morning with free labour, two'gangs of nine men each only being required at present. A large number of union men ass'embled outside the works, but there was nb disturbance, the police being in evidence.
