Moro drastic penalties for persons convicted of being intoxicated while in charge of motor-vehicle® are under, stood to be under t'&e consideration of the Various amemdments t 0 the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, are being drafted with a view to a Bill •being introduced during the present session.- . A person convicted intoxicated while in charge- $£ d motorvehicle is' at present liable to a fine of ,£IOO or to imprisonment for three months, but it is believed that public sentiment favours a stiffening up of t e punishment for such an offence.
