PAY OF POLICE
SECOND CUT TO BE IMPOSED.
(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, November 1./
The Home Secretary (Sir John Gil,mour) announces that the second reduction in he pay of the police, proposed when t 1.3 economies were introduced last year, must be imposed on November 1. The original plan required a saving of £1,000,000 in the first year and £2,000,000 in the second, of which a proportion was obtained by reorganisations. The present cuts will save £640,000. doubling the former reduction, with a maximum of 10 per cent. In a leading article “The Times” says that the reduction, made at a time promising no alleviation in risk and responsibility, is not a light thing.; but it is a more confident test of the, qualities r,that have made the British: constabulary generally trusted to » degree unknown elsewhere. .aJi
