'POSSUM & ARROW

POWER SUPPLY INTERRUPTED.

A WARNING TO CHILDREN. WELLINGTON, November 7. The danger of interfering with highteiiisioii wires was emphasised by the engineer and general manager of the j Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, Mr I E. F. Hollands, yesterday. He point-i

ed out that of the three interruptions' during the past week, two had been caused by the 'carelessness of persons, and one by an animal fouling the wires. On the board’s 11,000 volt line adjacent to. Gracefield Road, an ,interrUptioh had been caUsOd by some irre-

sponsible person throwing a length of ba,idled wire over the line. This immediately ‘ put the feeders out of action, aiid inconvenienced a number of consumers. 'On Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock trouble was experienced on the feeders from Khaiidalhih, and it, was discovered that a bamboo rod had been thrown aci’oss the line on the lino on the Petone Esplanade, burning through the wire and bringing it to the ground. It appeared that the rod had been shot up as ah arrow by meads, of a bow. A further fault developed during the night at Whiteman's Valley, and it was found that all (possum had got across the line. “The board views the first two items very .seriously.*’ said Mr Hollands, “and the danger of playing near high tension wires cannot he t'”' strongly stressed. I would urge, paren ts to warn their children qbout ; this practice. Some six weeks ago the board-rireulat-ised all the schools in the hoard’s area, asking ,t)ie teachers to warn the pupils of the danger.
