Tn addition, the portion referring to the finances df New Zealand was quoted in the financial columns of principal dailies and the financial papers (writes a London correspondent). At Mr Stewart’s wish copies of this section of his speech ' were widely circulated to all sections of the British Press, including the principal trade papers. Commenting on 'the luncheon, the “Evening Standard,’*l London, paid ‘a. great tribute to the New Zealand Finance Minister: “The best :of the speakers at the luncheon ■was the eruest of houour, who' made one of the finest Empire ;spe<pijtios I have ever heard. M'S* is of Scottish extraction. Like Mr Franklin Roosevelt, he suffers from a form of paralysis. Mr Roosevelt’s mishap was the result of archill. Mr Downie Stewart’s was due s to exposure in the trenches of Picardy. He was offered a staff job, but refused it. He speaks from his chair. He has no i gestures, hut his voice is even and. sympathetic. Hus tribute to the'British race was all tljo more effective because it was made without a trace of rhodomontade.’’
