“NO TRUTH IN IT.”
APPOINTMENT OF MR COATES. TO HIGH COMMISSIONER’S OFFICE WELLINGTON, Oct. 27. A report is current in Auckland today that Mr J. G. Coates intends' to go to England as High Commissioner, or resident Minister, and that Mr \V Goodfedow would contest the tlier, j vacant lvaipara seat, with a view U assuming the leadership of the Reform Party. This report iy ridiculed by Mi Forbes. •‘There is absolutely nothing in it,’ he said this morning. “It is a mosi fantastic story. No changes of an> sort are contemplated or known of.’ The opinion was expressed in otliei Ministerial circles that the rumour was of a leg-pulling variety, and was toe absurd to warrant the courtesy of a formal denial. It was suggested thai the story possibly originated from the fact that some months ago Oabinei gave a measure of consideration to tilt idea, following the policy adopted be Australia of appointing a resident Minister in London, although it was subsequently decided to abandon the pro i, pupal.
