RENT RESTRICTION
EXTENSION OF PROVISIONS. FURTHER TWELVE MONTHS. (Per Press Association— Copyright.) WELLINGTON, October 27. The Government’s decision to. extend the rent vestrictou legislation, which expires on October 31, for a further 12 months, was announced by the Minister of Labour, Hon. A. Hamilton, yesterday. It has been the recent practice -to revive the legislation from year to’ year. The usual expiry date has been July 31, but during the short session earlier in the year an extension for, three months! only was made. It was; understoocßa-t the time that the short, extension was made'to give the Government, an opportunity to consider during the present session whether I there was any necessity for .a, longerextension.
It is believed the Government considers that the position is not nearly so acute as formerly, but in order to me’et such causes ns may still require the protection of the legislation, Cabinet deoided last week to„ introduce a Bill giving a further year’s extension. It is probable that the Bid will appear this week.
