Agricultural Experiments.—Mr J. S. Lang, president of the Westland A. and P. Association, lost no time in communk ating with the Minister of ) Lands relative to the cstablisment of an experimental station ;n this disti.c. The Minister replied that the question of experimental work was occupy:ng the attention-of the Government, but lie was not in a position to iiidi- ( -ate what would be done in’ thk coniiection. The claims of the district would be fully considered. - Catholic Concert.—The concert .and dramatic entertainment ~to close the session of the Catholic Club drew an ex •pellent attendance last evening. Tlie programme consisted of items by .Mrs BoyeH, Misses L-‘ Malfroy, M. Sullivan, A. Daly, V. Holmes, J. Pfeifer, M. White, Rev. Father Aubry and Mn Warren. A sketch, “Found in a Four Wheeler” was much enjoyed the caste being taken by Misses J. Huto . vey and M, Hampson. ~and Messrs M. Lampe atid G. .Pfeifer. Borough Hokitika .Borough Council mot .last .evening. ! Present —The Mayor , (H. L. Michel, ISsqO Messrs Bock,-. Coulson, Breeze, McShcrry, ■ Lloyd, Me Gregor, and Dr Macmdrew. The msyor gave’, notice % move “That in view*-, of the extifi cost of, living caused by the high prices for the necessaries of life, any resolutions now on the ■ books of the Council,• fixing the rate of -wage*, he rescinded, and that the wages of all men employed by the Council be increased from 9s (now paid) to 10s per day.
