GOVERNMENT AND MEANS TEST HARDSHIPS ON UNEMPLOYED. LONDON, October 23. In reference to the Government’s intention to remove the complaint that the Means Test which is imposed before certain unemployed persons are granted relief, penalises thrift, the ■•Jhu'J’y Express” states that the authorities probably will not count ais means war c- other pensions up to. £1 a week, small property, or, workmen’s compensation awards up to £SOO. It is stated that some of the unemployed have been forced to. sell their houses ait great loss before being granted relief.
