RESOLUTION FOR ITS RETENTION (Per Press Association— Copyright ,j CHRISTCHURCH, October 26. A meeting- cf representatives of local bodies and motoring organisations called by the Canterbury Progress League, was held to-day to consider the proposal of the National Expenditure Commission that, the Highways Fund should be abolished. A resoluion was carried to the effect t at the conference, while ful y' appreciating-the financial difficulties cf the Government, disagreed'absolutely with the Commission’s recommendation that the Highways Fund be abolished, and urged/ that ,the fund be maintained and that, ■at the earliest possible date, all special motor taxation be'paid into the fund.
