RIFLE SHOOTING
RETURN OF NEW ZEALANDERS. GAVE GOOD PERFORMANCE. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, October 25. Nine of the ten New Zealand riflemen who last week competed at Sydnew, returned by the Zealandia. Mr H. L. Rule, of Petone, returns later. Mr J. C. Carter, who captained the team, said the New Zealanders shot very well considering that they did not have any real practice, there being no shooting in New Zealand from the end of March to the end of October, The ammunition was also a factor as they had to use mark six, instead of mark seven, to which they were used in New Zealand, and which required less windage than mark six. The standard of shooting in Australia was very high. The Defence Department there made all facilities available, and assisted to a greater extent than was the case in New Zealand. The Sydney meeting .was the finest south of the line, and 'the visitors were shown every hospitality. The sportsmanship generally was outstanding.
