A .midnight (visilj pa;id by • two drunken men to premises in Hereford iStreot-, after which the occupier, who Ipid fainted from’ a heart attack, missed ,a- considerable (amount of personal property, resulted in the- appearance of Robert- Inn Kerr and Basil Joseph Ottway in the Police Court, 'before Mr -H. P. La wry, S.M., this morning. Kerr and Ottway pleaded not guilty to -charges of stealing a coat and -sca-rf valued at £2 and belonging to Colin Stanley Shaw, on October 15, and a •woman’s coat a-nd personal property valued at- £5 Is on October 16. Mr Twvneham appeared for Kerr and Mr Stacey dor Ottway. •Seivor-Sergeant Fox said that one o' the witnesses had a room in Hereford -Street. On the evening of October' 1” she had a v : sitor, Colin Shaw. At m’d night the tw 0 accused visited the house and threatened Shaw for kecpi'ng company with >a married woman, hi-s friend being -separated from her husband. One of'the men struck Shaw,.and Kerr took his overcoat, which he refused to surrender. 'Shaw went to the Police Station to’ make a complaint-. Ibp woman had a heart attack, and wli.-ii she recovered fn m her ,swoon sh. . missed articles .'from her room. The missing goods including Shaw.s coat, veio found' 0 n the lawn 0 f « nearby hou?e. Square rigge’-s were al o found there. Tn the meantime the two accused hud been arrested for drunkenness, wiien both men gave fa]s e names. Evidence was given in support of the police statement. Mr Twynoham said that Kerr had only the haziest recollection of what had happened. Mr Stacey said that there was no evidence to connect Ottway with th ( > thrift. Both men were convicted.
