AN APPEAL.

(To the Editor). Sir, —Regularly each year the people cf the South Island have seat gifts at Christmas time to the six hundred lepers who are isolated at Miakogai, a lonely island l in the Fiji group. These sadly afflicted individuals look forward to this festive season, and with pleasant anticipation to the arrival of the steamer from Few Zealand, bearing gifts and messages of goodwill. Although at the present fine we are all feeling the effects of the. economic depression wp have a lot to be thankful for, namely, that we continue to enjoy good health, and have our liberty. On behalf of our less fortunate friend's, therefore, I have no hesitation in once again appealing to the generosity of the people of {lie South Idai'd to supply them with such Christman cheer as books, gramophone records, pipes, tobacco, cigarettes, sewing silks, emhroiderery cottors, etc. Gifts of money will also be gratefully accepted, and spent in New Zealand by a committee conversant with the wants of the patients,

This appeal is irgain being made in conjunction with Dr. Fletcher Telford and Dr. Thomas Hughes, Health Dpoartments of Christchurch and Auckland respectively. Donations may be sent to me, C/o Christchurch Gas Ccmvnny, Worcester Street, nnd will bo duly 'acknowledged in Saturdays' papers. I am, etc., P, J. TWOMEY.
