LABOUR TROUBLES

THE WATERSIDERS A UNION MEETING. (Per Fress Association — Copyright.) AUCKLAND, October 20. The watersid e workers held a general stop-work meeting this morning, to consider the Dominion agreement, •which has recently been th e subject of prolonged negotiation in Wellington. Following the meeting, all ships for which labour was required were worked, except tlie Remuera. It had been expected thlit a call for labour for the Remuera would be made at ten thirty, but none was made. About noon it was reported that the men had decided to work the Remuera this afternoon as a temporary measure, the parties concerned having been in conference during the morning. However there was a prospect that rain would prevent work this afternoon. AUCKLAND, October 20. The work of loading butter and chjeese on the liner Remuera was begun early this afternoon. It is understood that in this case a temporary arrangement has been reached, and that the watersiders have not yet decided upon a 'detinitg policy, Meanwhile the Remuera is announced to {(ail for London at mid-day on Wednesday,

'HIE SLAUGHTERMEN. NO change. AUCKLAND, October 20. T/here is no change in th 6 freezing works position, which is now partly dependent on the attitude the watersiders adopt towards produce handled by free labour, in the freezing works, or cool stores. The watersiders again refused to-day to work the Remuera, but it was reported they would, do so in the afternoon, as a temporary measure, though rain' threatens to prevent this. WELLINGTON, October 20. •Mr AlcLeod, Secretary of tbe New Zealand Freezing Workers’ Federation, stated to-day he was unaware oi any attempt having been made on behalf of the local Union to influence the abattoirs’ employees. Tlhe men at tbe abattoirs were not members of the Union, which is not concerned in any way with what is done there.
