A BURGLARY

Leaving a trail of bank notes behind them, burglars who entered • the Termini ,; hotel, i t the corner of Taranaki Street a d Courtenay.Risice la t night got away with £IBO in' clash and about £l7O worth of jewellery. The thieves apparently nu de an entrain e through a window and ransacked the proprietor’s bedroom. They emptied the safe and then decamped. The proprietor of the hotel, M.r L. Smith and his wife were absent during the evening and when they returned •about ten o’clock, they found • their bedroom door ajar, and' were confronted with a scene of utmo-t confusion within the room. It had been thoroughly searched and a cigarette case in which were twenty-five 'sovereigns, was lying emptied on the . bed. A nearby bbthroom window had been thrown open, and a few banknotes were lying on the floor and at intervals along the fire escape leading to the bathroom were scattered more of the thieves’ loot. The matter was reported to the police! who ware quick* ly on the scene,
