HIGHWAYS REPORT. Overseer Milkier reported as follows for the past month : LOWER KOICATAHI McARTHUIt ROAD. Motor worn holes and small subsidences were repaired with fine gravel over ft distance of 10 miLs absorbing 01 cubic yards of gravel. The road was dragged with heavy King Drag to reduce corrugations over a distance of 4 miles. The Bridge Foreman, H. Reynolds, assisted by unemployed labour completed the renewal of defective decking, erection of new handrailing and placing new traffic planking three feet in width under each wheel on Duck Creek Bridge No. 4, approximately 42 feet in length. No. 3 lorry filled by unemployed labour carted SO cubic yardis of gravel to raise and widen the northern and southern approaches to this bridge. The Briilge Foreman assisted by unemployed labour deepened the waterway of culvert •near Lang Road afterwards placing one course of 24 inch diameter pipes in the waterway ini readiness to cover with gravel when occasion permits. Unemployed labour was engaged in cleaning the .roadway and sides of cutting on Morris Hill, also partly completing the widening of the cutting at Lake Road intersection for a distance of 200 links. LAKE KANIERI ROAD. Repairs were effected to small scours and to motor worn holes over a distance of 3 miles 25 cubic yards of gravel being used for the purpose. Water-tables were cleared on the bill beyond Coial Creek and Boucher’s Hill, a distance of 10 chains. Unemployed labour commenced stripping; the spoil from the gravel for 5 feet in width, and 1 2 feet in depth at the first cutting beyond Kanieri River Bridge in readiness for widening when a lorry is available. UPPER KOKATAHI ROAD. Motor worn holes and depressions were repaired with gravel for a mile in length absorbing 20 yards of gravel. In addition No. 3 lorry filled by unemployed labour c-tarted 21* cubic yards of gravel which was dumped in various places at the roadside for future repairs. DETOUR ROAD. No repair work was effected to Detour Road during the month.
