The Hous e practically emptied after Mr Chamberlain’s speech. UNEMPLOYED DEMONSTRATION. LONDON, October 18. Several bodies of unemployed totalling at least ten thousand, attempted marches to Westminster in order to interview members of the Cabinet and members of the Commons- Most of the marchers were well behlaved, but there were conflicts in South London in the evening, when mounted police headed the marchers from Westminster. The front line of the unemployed attempted to. break the cordon of mounted police, forcing the police to charge the crowd. The leaders of the unemployed suffered sore heads and aching shoulders . when the police plied their batons lyScotland Yard took elaborate precautions to guard the approaches to the House of Parliament.
