CHARGE OF THEFT

PREFERRED AGAINST SOLICITOR. PLEA OF NOT GUILTY ENTERED. (Ver Vi ess Association — Cojijright.) AUCKLAND, October 18. The hearing of evidence concerning two charges of theft preferred against, Charles Stewart Leahy, a solicitor, aged 44, was commenced before Air Hunt, S.AI. in the Police Court. When the case come before the Court on Monday, Mr AlcKean, S.AI., refused an application by counsel for Leahy, Air Sullivan, for a remand. Mr Sullivan did not appear in the Court to-day, and Leahy, stating that his counsel had obtained only a cursory look at the books, and would withdraw from the case, asked for another remand.

This was declined by the Alagistrate, who said that the case would proceed. Leahy then left the dock and sat at the solicitors’ bench. Leahy was charged with stealing £25 on March 17, 1981, and £ll4 12s 4d on or about November 30, 1931, the sums being the moneys of Frederick John Young, After pvidenoe had been heard, the accused pleaded pot guilty, He was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was renewed in the sum of £SOO. Leahy being ordered to report daily to the police.
