AMERICAN BEATS NEW ZEALANDER. BRIGHT CONTEST AT AUCKLAND (Per Press Association — Copyright.) AUCKLAND, October 17. A professional lightweight contest was staged to-nighfi under control of the Northern Boxing Association between'Kid Coma, (America) and Ted Oxley (Pahiatua). The fight was won by Como by a knock-out in the ninth round. Oxley rose too late, and ho was counted out.

Como failed to make the lightweight limit, but Oxley sportingly agreed to proceed with the contest. There was about six pounds difference in the weights in Como’s favour. The American had a decided advantage in rcac.i as well as weight and height, this making a considerable difference. In spite of the disadvantage, under which he laboured, Oxley made it a bright and willing contest. He mixed it freely with his' opponent, whom lie sent to the boards for a count of three in the-fifth round. The gong saved Como on rising.

MARLBOROUGH V. CANTERBURY. TOURNAMENT AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, October 17. The inter-provincial boxing tournament Canterbury v. Marlborough, was decided to-night. Canterbury won by five bouts to four. O’Connor, who was knocked out, was taken to the hospital suffering from concussion. His condition is not serious. The result, with ths Marlborough names given first, were: — Flyweight: W. Fleming beat F. O’Connor by a knock-out. Featherweight: P. Rayner lost to N. H. Fisher on points; S. Foley lost to G. Murfitt on points; C. Rayner lost to P. G. Hawes on points. Lightweight: T. Borcovski beat P. Scott by. default; W. Francis bear, B. Kerr on points. Welterweight: J. Simons, lost to E. Fail on points. Middleweight: J. Cox beat S. Lister on points. Light-heavyweight: A. Dasler lost to A. 1. Bourne on novnts.
