PRESS COMMENT A VARIETY OF OPINIONS. (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.) DUBLIN, Octobe r 17. Disappointment at Mr de Valera's failure to secure a. settlement is intense particularly in Labour circles, where dissatisfaction with .the Government is growing. xhe ‘'lrish Independent - ’ newspaper says: f : 'l'.i e failure of the negotiations surely dees exhaust the resources of statesmanship. The method of arbitration is still open. If there is a- sincere desire for a settlement, there is no reason why the two Governments cannot agree to a tribunal who-'e impartiality both parties wi'-l recognise.

The "Cork ’.Examiner” says; “If the Free 'State declared its willingness to remain within the British Commonwealth, it is almost certain that a compromise could be reached on the annuities,"
