100 -MILE S.I. AMATEUR RACE, j CHRISTCHURCH, October 15. ' I With two minutes in hand, P. Newell (Prebbleton) off 35min, won the 100mile New Zealand amateur, road cycle championship to-day. The championr ship ribbon for fastest time was won by G. R-. Giles, who just beat an Otago man, A. J. ,Hay, for the honour, in 5.9.42 1-5. .
The piacings were:— 1 P Newell (Prebbleton) 35mm, 5.43.45 1-5 Ist; A. T.-E. Bradbury (Linwood), 40min, 5.45.23 1-5 2nd; F.’H. Thomas (Limvood), 45min, 5.47.58 1-5, 3rd; F. W. Cox (Sydenham) 35min, 5.37.58 2-5, 4th; K. Foster (Christ-j church), 25min, 5.29.34 1-5, sth ;. T. I Broad (Christchurch) 25min, 5.33.25 1-5; 6th; G. R. Giles (Sydenham) scr J 5.9.42 1-5 7th ; A. J. Hay (Dunedin) sc r , '5.9.42 2-5, Bth; C. T. Gilchrist (Duned-' in), scr 5.9.43 f 5, 9th ; D. McCallum (Dunedin), scr 5.9.43 2-5, 10th; F. J. Lange (YaMhur-'t), 25min, 5.34.45 1-5, 11th : J. 'E. Blackie (Dunedin) 15min, 6.24.47 1-5, 12th. Fastest time was secured by G. RGifes, and second fastest time by A. J. Hay.
