SUPERANNUATION

REPLY TO MR .STERLING. (Per Press Association — -Copyright.) WELLINGTON, October 16. Reference to superannuation funds was made by *Mr R. McVilly, former General Manager of Railways, at a smoke concert of the Railway Officers’ Institute on Saturday evening, prompting Mr H. H. Sterling to reply.

■ Mr McVilly recalled circumstances at the beginning of the fund. He said thnt' a different anew seemed to be taken now. The fund, he said', Was. being loaded with charges that.it. never bad been intended to bear, tt Was being used to relieve the Consolidated Fund. He added: “If the State repudiates its obligations, it win be doing a dishonest thing.” Mr Sterling said that he refused to believe that the Government was either so economically or morally bankrupt as to do such thing as to repudiate.

Mr V. R. J. Stanley, the president of the Officers’ Institute, said that he would be surprised if the Government did take the money.
