PURE “BUNKUM”
RUMOUR OF PRINCE'S ENGAGEMENT. ENGLISH AND SWEDISH ROYALTY. 'STOCKHOLM, October 8. A rumour, officially described as entirely without foundation, that Prince George cf England and Prihdess Ingrid of Sweden are about to become engaged, was probably due to the romantic interest taken by the people in the affairs of the young Royal folk. There was, however, nothing more to justify the rumour than a cordial meeting at the station, when the BritPrinces arrived, and the subsequent association of the princess with the two eligible bathelor visitors, which perhaps recalled to the popular mind the former’s visits to London. Circulation of the false report has caused much annoyance to Prince George and Princess Ingrid. Lieuten-ant-Colonel the Hon. Piers Lcgh, equerry to the Prince of Wales, wrs prompt in denying that there was any truth whatever in the story, while Major Butler, the equerry of Prince George, characterised it as “ridiculous and utterly untrue.” Colonel Sir Clive' Wigrnm, private secretary to the King, says that any statement that Prince George and Princess Ingrid have become betrothed is “pure bunkum.”
