The Chinese owned steamer, Helikon. flying the British flag, and commanded by Captain Lefore, has returned here after being in pirates’ hands for tw" days while voyaging to Saigon. The pirates travelled as passengers and seized control of the ship. They forced the officers into the cabins at revolver point, and proceeded leisurely to loot the vessel and rob the passengers comprising three hundred Chinese an f ] two women missionaries.
. They eventually went ashore at Bias Bay, taking five Chinese passengers. There was a poignant scene when a Chinese passenger intended to be taken ashore, had a touching farewell with his daughter, and jumped overboard and was drowned, rather than submit to the hardships of captivity.
