During the riots four pawnbrokers were pillaged, and a lorry laden with 'beer was looted. Three houses were burned to the ground. There have been burned to the ground. There have been thirty-;,ne persons injured, treated at the hospitals. The police have used cars on which they mounted machine guns equipped with birdcage tops to protect the crews from showers of stones. INCREASING TENSION PREVAILS. POLICE PATROL DANGER ZONE. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) BELFAST, October 12. The riots have recommenced, hut police charging, prevented a crowd raiding a baker’s cart. Several persons were injured and sent to the hospital. The tension has spread throughout the city. Three thousand police are patrolling the danger zones, suppressing attempts at looting the smaller shops, and the attacking of vehicles. The banks are strongly guarded. Snipers are again firing at the police, but armoured cars dispersed the most threatening attack.
