TOBACCO PRICES
CONTROL TN THE DOMINION. (Per Press Association,- — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, October 12. A conference of representatives ot the tobacco trade of the Dominion was held to-day. It was agreed to join with the Associated Chambers of Commerce in a deputation to the Government to-morrow asking that the Board of Trade Act, the Cost of Living Act and the Commercial Trust Act be repealed. By preventing the manufacturer now controlling prices, the Acts, it was said, led to a number of large firms using tobacco as a decoy for other business.
A petition has been sent to Parliament asking that, if the Commercial Trust Act, could not be repealed, it be amended to permit the price of tobacco to the consumer to be controlled.
