WIDOW’S CLAIM
£3OO COMPENSATION SOUGHT. NEW PLYMOUTH- October 10. , Lawrence Vincent Payne was fatally burned *some months ago. To-day his widow claimed £Bl7 compensation in the . /Arbitration Court from the Sash ancj Door Company. Payne was working with a tractor at the mill. He spilled oil on his clothes. He washed them with benzine, and put them on again. When lie struck a match to light a cigarette,, lu’s clothes became ignited. Payne jumped into a water race, but'he was so severely burned that he -died in the hospital. ... Mr Justice Fraser held that the accident was caused throug the striking of a match for his own purposes, a*hd not in the course .of his employment. . i . 1 ■'
