N.Z. FINANCES

A LONDON PAPER’S COMMENT. ('United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, October 10. The “Financial Times” emphasises that there is a recovery in Now Zealand stocks, thanks to remedial measures, adopted in the Dominion in bringing the national finances into alignment, and rectifying the trade position. The paper says: “Though finality has not yet been reached, as Mr Forbes is budgeting for a deficit, the decision to allow the country a respite from further taxation, in order to encourage trade, must be read in conjunction with the fact that the Government is steadily bringing expenditure towards current income.” It is not surprising to read that New Zeeland will shortly take an opportunity of converting the bonds she issued in 1931, which are costing her over six per cent.
