Unofficial negotiations are going on with the Country Party concerning the two vacancies in the Federal Cabinet- due. to the resignations of Messrs Hanker and! Fenton, and it is understood tnere is an increased possibility of that. Party being - ref resented in .the Cabinet. An announcement is expected after the week-end.

Mr Lyons announced the renewal of four and a quarter million pounds Worth of treasury bills in London at three and a half per cent. The previous rate was four and a half.
TASMANIAN SURPLUS.
HOBART, October 8.
The State surplus for the first three months of' the current financial year is £11,765.
SHEARING RATE.,
BRISBANE, October 8
The Industrial Court reduced the Queensland shearing rate from 36/- to 33/6 per hundred, but the conditions are unchanged.
