TOTE CLUBS
NEW GAMBLING CRAZE. SWEEPING ENGLAND. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, October 6. There has been a serious development in the gambling craze in Britain with the opening of tote clubs, ol which hundreds are now operating in London and many others in the provinces. The police have already closed several, but the majority are well conducted, and pay out the proper odds. Most of the tote clubs decline to provide drink, but others are serious rivals to the neighbouring public houses. The membership fee is one shilling per year. The members include many women and even girls.
