BOGUS POLICEMAN. (Per Press Association- — Copyright.) AUCKLAND, October 3. A young man came before, the Police Court on a charge which the Magistrate described as “most serious”.' Eric Guy Whitson, aged twenty years, was charged with unlawfully assuming tlie designation of a member of the New Zealand Police Force, a detective, on September 13, The accused pleaded guilty. i Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that Whitson, on -September 13, went to see a business man to discuss another business man. He said this man was a crook and that there were defalcations in his books. : “Whitson told the business man that lie worked in the Detective Office on probation, and also told some girls that he was a detective,” said Sergeant Kelly. ‘‘He produced a pair of handcuffs. Apparently Whitson wants to be on probation, as given by this Court, which .would be nothing new to him as he has three previous convictions.” Whitson was fined £lO, in default one month’s imprisonment. USING AN INSTRUMENT. AUCKLAND, October 4. , George -Frederick Hewer. 39,. described on the charge, -sheet as a medica! practitioner, was remanded to-day on. a charge of unlawfully using an instrument on a woman aged 26, whom detectives and police matron, yesterday removed to a hospital. jHewer was 'remanded until October ,11th. 'When counsel -applied for bail iDeteef-ve-Sergeant Kelly • said the woman’s. condition was very serious and the -doctors -said it was yet a question of life or death.
