MONTHLY MEETING, i The Hokitika, School Committee met last night'at the school at 7 o’clock. , Present Messrs A. 0.. Armstrong i (Chairman), F. Ohesterman, W., H. Shannon, J. J. Breeze, A. McDougall, W. E. Richards, H. R. Sweney and R. J. Redder. I An apology was made for the absence of Mr J., Conning. | The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. | Inward Correspondence. I f From Mrs J. J. Breeze and family, acknowledging letter of condolence.— Received. ' * j Frr m Education Board notifying ap--1 pointment of assistant teacher, Miss Parlane; notifying accident insurance for workers was effected by the Beard: , and also in regard to insurance of j unemployed workers.—Received. I From same in reference to action to jbe taken in regard to use of school buildings and grounds for Su 1 d\v j Schools’ Summer School • but use • should not be given of the cookery ! school and equipment.—Received. It was resolved that the request for use of the school and grounds .he granted, subject to an indemnity for any possible damage being provided.

It was resolved to thank the School Committees’ Association, Mr Kyle M.P. for his action m the matter and the delegate.
| The dental officer (Miss Pitt) reported 151 attendances, 104 patients: and ' stated she was going into South West- | land for tjhe. ensuing two months. | Patients treated were: Hokitika 83, Convent 9, .Kaihinu 4. Kanieri 3, Woodstock 5; total 104.—Received, .
| The Rector (Mr J. L... Menzies) re r ported as follows: —The average number was: Secondary roll 99,- average attendance 87.9; primary, roll -number 334 average attendance. 288.8. Since, | the re-opening of the present term the attendance had been exceptionally poor due to a considerable amount of sickness ; parents are urged to give, attention to the matter of regular attendance.—Received. • It was resolved to i endorse the necessity of as large an at- [ tendance of pupils as possible. Accounts as scheduled were passed for
payment. A vote of thanks in connection ■ with the school concert was to Misses Huff and Hale, Mr Menzies* and Mr Lynn, thanking them for the valuable assistance.
It was resolved to meet at 8 p.m. during the summer months. The Visiting Committee (Messrs Sweney and Pedder) reported on some small matters required.—Received. Viscitors for next month are Messrs Breeze and Chesterman. The committee rose at 8 p.m.
