The bout was full of interesting work, and although Thompson showed up well as a resourceful and willing performer it became clear before many minutes had gone that Walker was the more dangerous man. He won the first fall inj the third round. Thompson then equalised amid high excitement, in the next, but Walker brought the match 'to an end in the fifth with an unusually well-directed slam. Both men scaled 13st 121 b.
