ANNUAL REPORT

NATIONAL PROVIDENT FUND. ' According to the annual report of the National Provident Fund ' Board for last year, which was presented to Parliament' on Friday, at December 31, 1931, the contributors to the fund totalled 29,359. 1 1 The total income for the year amounted to £470,013, including £248,882 paid by contributors and £170,493 interest. ! The fund at the end of the year totalled £3,263,005, an increase of £326,801. The benefits paid out by the fund | amounted to £188,970, including maternity benefits of £43,582. The rate of interest earned was £5/13/1, as compared with £5/13/5 for the prevous year.

The expenses of administration in respect o! ordinary contributors to the fund continued to show a satisfactory decrease, the percentage being 19.07. against 20.2 for the previous year. The amount of the State subsidy was £49,955, being one-fifth .of the total contributions paid into the fund last year. '
