IN THE AIR
AUCKLAND-WELLINGTON FAST RETURN FLIGHT. AUCKLAND, September 27. A particularly fast flight ‘to Wellington and buck was made to-day by Flight Lieutenant D. M, Allan, instructor to the Auckland Aero Club, in the Club’s Puss Moth machine. The occasion was the first on which a return trip between Auckland and Wellington has been made in one dry. The monoplane was chartered by Vone of the club's pupils, Mr V. Salck, of Auckland, who found it necessary to visit Wellington urgently. The machine took off from the Mangere Aerodrome at 9.5 a.ra. and made an excellent trip to Wellington, landing at the Rongotai Aerodrome at 11-oo a.m., after a non-stop trip of only 2 hours 50 minutes for a journey - ot over 300 miles. Mr Salcfc decided to remain in Wellington, and the pilot took off alone on the return journey at 2 p.m. Flying north, he encountered head winds and, although the machine was not impeded by the passenger’s .weight the flight occupied 3 hours 25 minut «.
