SEDITION CHARGE

George Melton, junior, the publisher of the ‘‘Brisbane Telegraph” was today committed'- for trial for having advisedly printed and published a seditious writing on August 4th. Note:— I The charges against the former Christchurch, New Zealand, journalists, Martin Reading, and George Melton, the .editor and publisher respectively of the “Brisbane Telegraph,” are those of having publisned seditious matter under the heading “Premier "Versus People,” wherein, a contributor, who signed himself “J. Martin,” suggested that the Premier of Queehslaind, Mr Forgan Saith, must be in sympathy with Communism or otherwise he would not rlltoQ.ijurmynist ’ processions. The letter also urged the formation of a “New Guard” ’ and urged ia refusal to pay taxes, adding: “The people have the Governmeneft at 7 their mercy if only they have the courage to act.” Reading formerly was editor of the “Lyttelton Times.”
